Cyanotypes

Step 1: Sun 30min

Concept: “explore the water” As I made these Cyanotypes, I imagined being a fish swimming around the pages. The mixed use of materials like wire and plastic pool objects allowed for organic lines like seaweed in the ocean or waves in a pool.

Step 2: Cold water rinse until runs clear

Objects on paper- During the first phases of making these Cyanotypes I scattered miscellaneous objects on 6 pages. I kept these objects consistent throughout them to insinuate a consistent concept. “explore the water”

  1. I love your concept of exploring the water and letting the objects “swim” through the pages just as they would in water. I wish your object imprinted a little better on the paper so I could really feel the impact but great job at taking these objects and giving them life!

  2. Brittany, I am amazed at the idea you had in mind. You really thought outside the box and used you imagination to create something so great! I can totally see your vision of the fishes basically swimming under water. And the use of wires or strings, gives me the fishing rod vibe. Maybe just have them placed differently just so we can see the items on the paper a little more clear. Overall, your images are great, and i love them!

  4. I like these a lot! I enjoy the way that you avoid a lot of solid edges in your prints, and you end up with a nice gradient of values overall in your cyanotypes. The second one sort of reminds me of a fish floating around in a slightly polluted pond, and I really like your compositions in all the cyanotypes and how you let objects run off the page.

  5. I really love your approach to this project! It’s like you thought less about the objects and more about how they will look flattened in the print, which is a really great way to control your outcome. I thought your entire process was documented very well with lots of thought and effort. Your prints are very successful to me and even though some didn’t come out the clearest I didn’t mind because if I were looking at the objects under water I may see a similar outcome.
